Activate Your Activism
(Session III: Mornings)
What needs do you see in society? What can you do to help fulfill those needs? Spend the week volunteering in Fulton, then take an in-depth look at your community to find areas where you can make a difference. Research volunteer opportunities that you can initiate in your local area after camp. Take the first step to develop a lifelong habit to do your part to make the world a better place.

Adobe Photoshop
(Sessions II & III: Mornings)
Learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop---the computer program that allows you to create and alter graphics and photographs to suit your needs. Fix flaws, add or subtract objects, draw on photos, change colors of objects, and stretch or shrink objects! This program allows you to create “perfect” pictures every time! Spend the week learning how to do magic with Photoshop!

American Sign Language

Did you know that…
- people using ASL can communicate across distances...much farther than the loudest shout can carry?
- Sign Language is used to communicate underwater?
- While whispering can be picked up by microscopic listening devices, sign language is bug-proof? (take note CIA!)

Ancient Celts: Singers of Song, Slingers of Stones
(Session III: Afternoons)
The Celts created and held one of the most widespread cultures of the ancient world. Much of the information known about them has been passed down from their conquerors and is unfairly biased. Discover a more accurate picture of this ancient people through legends, texts, storytelling and film.

Ancient World: An Introduction to Antiquity

Why build an empire? What advantages did gathering large territories under one government have for ancient peoples? Enter the ancient world and explore the early empires of the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Uncover modern parallels, through film, slides, stories and discussion. Meet antiquity through art, archeology, legends and languages.

Book of Art
(Session III: Afternoons)
Learn how to draw and paint while exploring different art materials. Use watercolors, pastels, charcoal, and pen and ink while learning the finer techniques of drawing. Put all your work together in a special artist’s book that you create.

Chemistry of Fire
(Session III: Afternoons)
Explore the colorful, loud, fun and sometimes explosive side of chemistry. Use chemistry to create and explain color changes, huge bubbles, weird smells and effusions of gas! Learn why chemistry works the way it does and how to safely perform experiments. (Due to the nature of this class there will be an emphasis on safety. NO horseplay allowed. )

Chinese Art: A Symbol of Style
(Session III: Mornings)
Chinese painting is more than simply a style. Paint animals and landscapes. Practice the strokes to do calligraphy. Experiment with a variety of art mediums including watercolors, pen and ink, and charcoal. Learn the rituals and techniques that are an integral part of this stylish art form.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! CK News has immediate openings in all areas. Qualified applicants are responsible for researching, writing and editing stories for a daily newsletter. Be prepared to meet deadlines and produce at least one news feed per day. No previous experience needed- --on the job training will be provided. Interest in writing and research are a must! Hurry and apply for this position as these spots fill quickly!

CK Radio Showcase
(Sessions I, II & III: Mornings)
Use your acting, singing, and/or musical instrument-playing talents to create an original radio show production, complete with costumes, props and sound-effects! Show segment possibilities are limitless---such as: adventure (STAR WARS, PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS), fantasy (PETER PAN, HARRY POTTER), horror (TWILIGHT, NEW MOON), or develop an original script.

Cognitive Psychology

Do we act solely in response to external stimuli or can the wealth of ideas and thoughts we possess spring from an unknown corner of our mind? Cognitive psychology is often referred to as the science of the mind. Explore how we organize and process the information we receive from our environment. Find out what directs our mental processes.

Graffiti and Urban Art: Finding your Style and Swagger
(Session III: Afternoons)
Graffiti, tagging, urban art and hip hop are all important parts of our cultural landscape and a way to understand today's society. Appreciate graffiti styles and messages as real art. Learn about the history of graffiti and its connection to hip hop culture. Create your own tag name and urban character, and complete a graffiti work of art using spray paint and other materials. Creativity is the only pre-requisite to express yourself using this art style.

Math Magic
(Session II & III: Mornings)
Unravel mysterious math problems, magic squares, and magic paper! Learn how to dazzle your friends, fool your parents and stump your teachers. All it takes is time, thinking, and lots of fun. Use algebra and geometry to solve problems. Be introduced to other fields of mathematics. This math exploration class will nurture you as a critical thinker and creative problem solver.

Mock Trial
(Session III: Mornings)
Whodunit? Experience the excitement of the twist and turns of a court trial. Try an attorney’s suit on for size, argue, and defend a case, examine the evidence and be able to make decisions for yourself whether you are defending or prosecuting the accused. Experience the inner workings of a courtroom as we follow our own case through the court system.

Myths and Urban Legends

Are there alligators in the New York City sewers? Is Walt Disney cryogenically frozen? Was Mr. Rogers a Navy Seal? Explore questions and investigate the myths and urban legends that saturate our society. Look at how modern technology perpetuates these myths. Learn to distinguish fact from fiction as you become a discriminate consumer of the media. Explore how the media shapes your beliefs, your vulnerabilities, your life…

Operation Anyone?

Learn how the human body works. Examine how the stomach breaks down food. Find out how your eye processes color and how your brain "sees" thing differently from your eyes. Investigate body systems and how they work together. Learn the art of dissection as we tour the body, one organ system at a time.

Psychology and Personality Profiling
(Session III: Afternoons)
Personality is made up the characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior, which make a person unique. Personality arises from within the individual and remains fairly consistent throughout life. Learn and apply basic principles of psychology to gain insight into your own and others’ personalities. Predict the reactions and responses of your friends and family in certain situations based on what you know about their personalities.

Sci-Fi Drive-In, Part 2
(Session I, II & III: Mornings)
As AVATAR appears on movie screens and STAR TREK comes out on DVD, last year’s Sci-Fi class is back to continue our journeys to the stars, other dimensions, the past, and the future. Newcomers are welcome to join last year’s classmates as we create our own universes and seek inspiration from your favorite sci-fi books, films, and TV shows.

Shoot a Rocket Movie!
(Session III: Afternoons)
Launch the Astrovision Rocket, loaded with a digital camera! Film the trip from takeoff to landing. Working in groups, download the movie to a computer, add audio and special effects. Preview and share your creative masterpieces with your class . Then sit back and wait for the Hollywood scouts to discover you!

(Sessions I, II and III: Afternoons)
Learn the art of scrapbooking, journaling, and preserving memories while creating your own special book. Use color and design elements to make your photos stand out. Spend the week working on page layouts, journaling, color schemes and other techniques to bring your memories to life. Students should bring 30-40 photographs and be ready to start scrapping on the first day. All other materials are provided.
